If it weren’t for the fact that these morons are screwing with the lives and livelihoods of the actual people that they purport to serve this would be one hell of a comedy series on Netflix
Excellent Irena and thank you for the hot drink warning!
I still maintain that someone votes for the imbeciles running things; and they are selling solar and wind as six of one and half a dozen of the other compared to oil and gas. Those select few of us who deal in numbers, not emotion and words to evaluate such things know full-well that solar/wind vs. oil/gas/nuke/hydro are on a fool's errand, but how did the fools get in charge?
When you said, "really big paintings", for some weird reason I thought of Goya's "The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters", Which according to the internet "The artwork depicts a person asleep while fantastical and nightmarish creatures surround him, symbolizing the idea that irrationality and lack of reason can lead to chaos and monstrous consequences. Goya's work often critiqued the social and political issues of his time, and this piece reflects his concerns about the irrationality he observed in society."
Did a quick check and Die Grunen (the greens) still clock in at 12.8% in Germany, with the Kommies making up another say, 6% (Die Linke plus KPD + MLPD). That make almost 20% utterly irrational, possibly insane; and these people make a lot of noise. Go to the other Eurozone countries and you will find similar numbers. A hardcore, vocal minority for windmill / solar, probably 50-60% sound asleep, and less than 20% with any idea whatsoever.
But physics and economics will win the day, come the time, there will be a terrible reckoning.
Oh, yes, "The Sleep of Reason" is one excellent example of the artwork I had in mind, thank you for mentioning it.
What you see in the numbers I see on BG social media, too. A small, vocal minority that votes for literal criminals and will keep voting for them because it truly believes they are the good guys. So what if they break the law? It's for the good of the many. It's impossible to fight this sort of delusion with anything, including facts. Most people, however, do not belong to that minority. They just need to awaken from their mental slumber, as it were. I guess a few more price hikes could do the trick.
Irina, I know you are a comedian at heart. That's because humor is the best medicine and these people certainly are sick and in pain. The problem is that they don't see the humor in their policies.
The idea that electricity prices have to go up before they can go down is nothing new. A consultant report to the Rhode Island legislature when they were putting their net zero policy in place stated that prices would go up and then come down. The report was buried by the legislature, but the reason for the future decline was that business and people would leave the state.
Brilliant as usual! A general "warning" will do because your post cover so many emotions - laugh, cry, rage, daze....all in only a few minutes. Thanks again!
Just a small correction. As I have learned over the last decade, burning trees only produces the terrible carbon polluant if it happens in their natural place or in the form of firewood. If you shred the trees, spray thek with chemicals, pelletize and ship them across the atlantic they are perfectly ecological and are a net 0 source of great and modern energy.
"Problematic, unreliable, and too expensive are other words that one can use" along with technologically impossible, preposterous , implausible, and beyond the bounds of possibility. Truly an over-application of male bovine fecal matter!
Ah - NOW I think I see the logic of Herr Starmer's plan in the UK - reducing the subsidy for energy is not meant to freeze out the old folks but instead to create demand for cheaper energy! Brilliant!
It seems the fine people running things in the western world are working with the "Alice in Wonderland paradigm" - simply click their heels and say things and poof! - they become real! Well, except for that mean old bean in Norway...he's no fun at all.
Very. "Sweden’s Deputy PM and Energy Minister @BuschEbba stated today that she’s “furious with the Germans.” LOL, ROFL and the rest of them. Everyone's furious with the Germans and I can't want for someone from Brussels to start talking about the EU needing even more interconnectors again.
I fondly remember the Disney movie Mary Poppins with singing chimney sweeps. The increase of use of wood fuel in the UK will provide more employment for them because of the creosote build up in all the chimneys burning firewood. It’s all good!
And China comes in for so much criticism when it tries to be as energy self-sufficient as possible when other countries are threatening it with embargoes and tariffs. If Germany had done the same thing, we wouldn't be reading these headlines now.
So much of this quest for Net Zero relies on valuing carbon. Carbon credits are like the energy version of bitcoin, creating something with electrons that is supposed to have 'value' from calculations about something we can't see. Ironically those electrons are now muscling out people to grab more electricity to create these values. Meanwhile, discarded clothes and plastic trash pile up in our oceans and in the countryside, but "we" act like those are invisible.
Somehow there is mass confusion about what is virtual and what is real these days. Norway seems to have figured it out. The German government, not so much.
That's a very interesting analogy, thank you. Also good point about value and what's real. It's a good thing there are still people who are aware what's real and what's not, and work to clean up the ocean and the land from the garbage of those too busy to freak out about the content of CO2 in the atmosphere.
I'm reminded of Chief Brody telling Quint in the movie Jaws, "You're gonna need a bigger boat." Perhaps your readers can do a fundraiser? Would you prefer one large autopsy table, or a room full of autopsy tables? 🤘😎🤘
Now that's a very good question. I think a room full of tables would be best. A single large one would be challenging since I'm rather small and have trouble using full-size snooker tables unassisted. :D
The logic of this has even been adopted by the woke US DE, headed by fellow Michiganian Jennifer Granholm. Reopening plans are afoot for the Palisades nuclear plant. The government money is pouring in to provide more Michigan jobs, which makes me uncomfortable and doubt the plant will ever operate at a profit.
I keep thinking that there is a limit to the stupidity that exists within the Western leadership when it comes to climate issues, but if there is, based on the fact that you have a never ending supply of new stories highlighting each more stupid step than the last, i suppose it may be an infinite resource. If only someone could convert stupidity into electricity, now that would be a winning formula
Isn't Norway the nation with the largest per capita ownership of EVs?
I remember Superbowl commercials with Hollywood energy experts extolling their obvious virtue.
Good plan.
Yes. Yes, it is. It's gloriously funny.
Again: horrible and beautiful at the same time. Both what you describe and how you describe it. Please keep this up!
Thank you! At this point, the only way I could stop doing this was if I get arrested, which won't be for a while yet. :)
If it weren’t for the fact that these morons are screwing with the lives and livelihoods of the actual people that they purport to serve this would be one hell of a comedy series on Netflix
Agree. It would be great if more of said people saw through the lies.

well, that was likely an accurate estimate then
At least someone was honest. I'm considering starting a consulting business...

Yes, you are completely correct. This indisputable fact somehow escaped me. :D

See you Thursdays!
Bring your songbook!

European Climate Action refugees can flee to certain parts of the USA. IF you bring industrial plants and hire Americans, of course.
I will buy a print of "Norway Defends Against The Electricity Thieves" from the artist who paints it.

And it would bring more luck to all of us, since touching a chimney sweep is lucky, don't forget that added benefit.

I, too, believe there are no limits to this moronity, yes. You're right, if only we could harness it...
