When I wrote the first part of this post, I believed that the idea of implementing wartime-style rationing to reduce emissions belongs to the fringe of the climate crusade.
Irina: If you haven't already, watch the movie Elysium, with Matt Damon and Jodie Foster.
In 2154, Earth is overpopulated, diseased, and polluted. The planet’s citizens live in poverty while the rich and powerful live on Elysium, an orbiting space station just outside of Earth’s atmosphere. It's my go-to imagery which comes to mind when I'm reading about the various shenanigans coming from the climate catastrophists, i.e. Thunberg et al. What's good for thee and what's good for me, well, never the two shall meet.
Thanks, Bunny, I'll give it a watch. To me, the situation looks like Wall-E meets Equilibrium turned on its head, right now. All feelings, no thought at all -- because of your last point, I guess.
Anyone with outrageous beliefs like that can go ahead and walk that plank if they so choose -- go ahead and get rid of all their money and move to a 3rd world country so they can live in "equity" every day. For the rest of us, we'll keep on keepin on. ✌️
In all seriousness, so-called third-world countries might become an attractive migration destination -- they have lower emissions standards and it will be a lot harder to enforce rationing there...
Your writings have directly resulted in increased emissions- your Scope 3, if you will. I am dinging your ESG score. Eat some bugs and cancel any planned vacations to offset. Ursula will be happy
Funny how no "researcher" decries the wasted money and climate costs of the annual gatherings. In Canada our feckless leader has planes flying 10 minute hops so he doesn't have to "waste" valuable time caught in plebian traffic jams. This has always been a game for a new elite to assume control over our lives. It is always for the better good and never for the elites who preach it. Bugs for thee and steals for me. Another great article Irina. My weightlifting session will be extra good today with all the energy I now have....
If John “I served in Vietnam” Kerry and Al the Gore would ditch their private jets and take public transportation everywhere along with getting rid of their many energy hogging mansions I might just might possibly change my behavior. But since they will not change I will keep eating meat, driving my car and other so called earth unfriendly behavior.
One question and one question only determines if a person is willing to support serious efforts on climate change mitigation ( and pollution, high energy costs, energy poverty as a happy added bonus). That question is:
Do you support a massive, broad & rapid expansion of Nuclear Energy?
So ANYONE touting climate change, ALWAYS ask them that question, first & foremost. That will tell you who and what they are.
Anyone who touts climate change alarmism and doesn't answer with a resounding YES, I DO, is either a dimwit, a grifter, a hypocrite or a closet Malthusian or more likely a combination of all 4.
If you don't give a damn about climate change, then that is not the case. However there are essential reasons why you should answer YES to the question. Namely that the World energy supply needs to expand 5X to elevate the standard of living of developing nations to acceptable levels. There is no way you can do that with fossil energy. Implausible. Fossil prices would skyrocket and crush our economy. No wonder our Malthusian scarcity promoting Overlords despise Nuclear Energy so much and go to great lengths to suppress it.

I’ve lived next to 2 nuclear ☢️ power stations during my life and I don’t glow in the dark. When I drive past the cooling towers I always feel grateful for the clean baseload power this provides. Tilting at windmills and solar panels will not get us to net zero.
I can see the towers of our biggest coal power plants and I, like you, feel grateful for them. Not as clean as nuclear, of course, but a lot cleaner than in the past and 100% reliable.
Imagine being as visionary as the promoters of this bullsh1t. They can see everything we can't and we must do as they say in order to be saved, even if it's painful for us. It's a scam. Sustainable = Subsidy = transfer of wealth for poor to rich. I won't object one iota if these people want to create a template somewhere in the world where all their believers can try out their plan. Report back the findings in say 5yrs and then us non-believers can make a better judgement of the actual impacts of their policies. My prediction would be that many believers would become non-believers.

That meme of "the weather is always your fault and the only solution is more communism" is looking more and more like premonition
Every time I read one of your articles I have a giant steak, book a flight and go for a drive to nowhere. Keep it up.
Oh, good, you just made my carbon footprint explode. Thanks a lot, Bash! :D
Your writings have directly resulted in increased emissions- your Scope 3, if you will. I am dinging your ESG score. Eat some bugs and cancel any planned vacations to offset. Ursula will be happy
My thoughts exactly! I'm going to outsource the bug-eating to my cat, though. Less cat food = a bit lower Scope 3, I hope, for whatever it's worth.

Yes our Dear Leader aka Fratboy, with his silver spoon lodged somewhere.
Thanks, Bruce, it's good to feel helpful! :)

It is fascinating how our leaders honestly assume the "Rules for thee but not for me" would totally work with zero opposition from people.

If you haven’t come across this already, a really fascinating podcast on the history of coal power and what this allowed us to achieve is https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/decouple/id1516526694?i=1000570408546
But we do need to be more grateful and recognize what energy gives us in terms of our quality of life.
Thanks! Yes, we do need to appreciate what reliable energy's done for us.
I will pickup 20 pounds beef this weekend. I will be driving there.
I'm getting the feeling I'm encouraging climate-hostile behaviour... :D How are you cooking the beef -- gas stove or barbecue?

Electric stove and BBQ (once it warms up a bit). 90 % of our ⚡ is from natural gas.
