If there is one thing to be said about the International Energy Agency it is that it keeps its promises. Earlier this month, after it released a 10-point plan for reducing Europe’s dependence on Russian gas, the IEA promised another plan followed, to reduce consumption of oil. Today,

Limiting cars to odd and even days just means two car families become three car families, welcome to Santiago in Chile or Bangkok who have both tried that out at times.
Many cities in Colombia have tried #5 for last 10-15 years with very little success. The traffic and pollution just gets worse every year. Rich people buy an extra car with a different license plate so they can drive on their off days.
Here's a plan for the IEA: build nuclear; lots and lots of nuclear.
Unfortunately, the press has been fearmongering the Ukraine situation regarding Chernobyl and Zaporizhzhia. This plays right into Putin's hands.
Many *actual* experts (you know, like nuclear engineers, specialists in radiological incidents, health physicists and the like) have been trying to counter the fear narrative. Here's a good video featuring a radiological specialist for nuclear accidents and a health physicist who heads the Chernobyl Tissue bank that explains why fears are overblown:
The IEA's list reminds me of this David MacKay quote:
'So, what are our options, if we wish to get off fossil fuels and live sustainably? We can balance the energy budget either by reducing demand, or by increasing supply, or, of course, by doing both.
Have no illusions. To achieve our goal of getting off fossil fuels, these reductions in demand and increases in supply must be big. Don’t be distracted by the myth that “every little helps.” If everyone does a little, we’ll achieve only a little. We must do a lot. What’s required are big changes in demand and in supply.'
A persistent sense of foreboding disaster.
Excellent!

Hillarious. Im only waiting for the "Energy Lockdown" right after the "Climate Lockdown" after the "Covid Lockdown".

This doesn't sound very environmentally friendly or economical...
Good stuff.

“…but on the plus side, we need a change of government so let’s do it.“
This is the kind of comic relief I need right now!
Same here. :)
