There isn't merely impunity for codifying stupid ideas as rule. There are rewards like social credit (power), grants (money), consultant gigs (see money), and the feeling of pride that comes from helping your fellow man do what you want them to do.

Indeed we should and do experience this. The idea of America as a union of states which abide by a set of shared values under the Constitutional umbrella is being replaced by factionalism and the repudiation of Constitutional laws and a social contract founded on individual freedoms.

Thank you, Zbigniew. To me, this behaviour of repeating the same untruths with the air of one speaking the truth is nothing short of madness. Of course, the reasons for that madness may well be persona gain, as you suggest. We do all pursue gains, benefits and pleasure but we don't as a rule do it by acting as if we want the opposite, which is what the EU is doing with EVs, for instance.

Thank you per usual, Irina. The video is priceless. It's not "collusion," it's "collaboration."

I continue to hear over and over that solar panels covering fields can produce shade benefiting “some crops”. I’m waiting for someone to actually list a few of these crops that don’t need sunlight. Photosynthesis, using sunlight as the energy source, is how crops produce food. As an agriculture guy, I’m baffled that no one is naming these crops that grow well under solar panels. Of all the massive solar farms in Texas, I haven’t seen ANY crops growing under the solar panels. Maybe I’m just not looking hard enough. Also, I hope Japan doesn’t have hailstorms like the ones in Texas that have destroyed thousands of acres of solar panels.

Yes Ken - I love to hear we are going to get relief from the Texas sun, wondering why they hadn't thought of just suspending those solar panels in the sky all over Texas after they cover all our best agricultural land! Also wondering what farmer wants to manipulate his way around those panels to plant, fertilize and bring in the crop! The panels won't last long. It may be a good plan for market gardens. In Texas we will have sheep.

Obviously these people haven't gotten out of their 10 square yard to see how the rest of the world operates. But it sounds so good to those city folks! And then there is the tax breaks they want for keeping it in ag. exempt! We need to make sure this doesn't catch on with appraisal districts. I know of one district that is still in ag and it has been operating for about 8 months.

Four solar facilities that I know of have been hit by hail this year, there are probably more we will never hear about.

I want to see the Rube Goldberg contraption that seeds and harvests those fields...running of wind and magic.

Generally you get 3 answers. 1. "We'll set up the panels so you can farm between them." 2. Hand intensive stuff like vegetables. Lettuce gets mentioned a lot. 3. Graze sheep. The last sounds the most workable.

Ah yes, ploughing around panel frames, what an exciting prospect. But they're pushing no-till farming right now, so maybe that's one of the reasons.

I actually prefer no-till, less time preparing fields (thanks for settling on the terminal moraine, ancestors!) and less soil erosion. But the theory is the panels will be mounted in wider rows you can farm between. Like I said, grazing sheep is probably the best bet for dual- use.

I can visualize some goats grazing in a solar farm to keep the weeds under control. Mowing around those things has to be a pain, and releases emissions! Now that I think about it, sheep and goats are ruminants and the transitioinist want to get rid of all ruminants because of their “emissions.”

I know! Free range chickens!

Goats, however, would gnaw on anything, including cables, so maybe not goats. :D

Yeah. If goats can eat a cactus they would probably wreck the wiring in that solar farm!

Anyone would prefer no-till -- it means less work, after all, but only as long as it's possible and sadly it's not possible on any soil. Ours is clay which turns into rock by August. Besides, my old farming book says tilling lets oxygen into the soil so I'm a bit dubious on the topic.

Farming between rows of panels is a swell idea -- absolutely no chance of catching and cutting cable, I'm sure. Grazing sounds best.

Funny you should mention that because I have been wondering about the same thing. The only sort of specific reference about agrivoltaics was grazing for sheep. Also there's the idea of orienting the panels in such a way so the crops below do get sunlight. Sounded pretty expensive.

Alas, mushrooms need high humidity as well as heat. Not sure it's damp enough around panels but I may be wrong.

One must be impressed with the lengths that those who advocate net zero are willing to twist reality in order to "make" their point. Representative Issa really did give them a wonderfully difficult time in exposing their hypocrisy. But at this point, exposing the hypocrisy of the climate hysterics is pretty easy, since literally everything they say is opposite everything they do!

Well I have to say that after sitting 2 days in senate committee hearings I was ready to get back to the country where the only thing I have to worry about running over is deer and hogs and maybe the occasional dog, not a multitude of pedestrians and cyclists.

It seems the head of the solar group didn't know much about solar, except that now with bi-facial panels only use 6 acres per MW. I wonder who is using those, now we have a glut of cheap crap from China that will be used first. Emphasis on cheap! I'm still going on 8-10 acres depending entirely on landscape not the panels. For quick calculations for my old brain I go with 10 - so much easier to figure and whats a few acres between solar facilities anyway!!

It amazes me that under oath makes a solar expert totally dumb, but before a regular crowd they can spin all sorts of tales of fantasies.

Our bureaucrats have no solutions and of course were not ready for the massive build out necessary in the next couple of years. Business as usual. Now on to transmission, because they have to have that to make it all work. Good luck with that - it's a 8-10 year process.

I ask the senators what they were going to do to secure our electricity for the common bill paying folks for the next couple of years - no answer. ERCOT list only gives us solar and batteries. Not much mention on batteries this session, guess they may have figured out they can't get them.

I wasn't going to listen to the bitcoin session, but decided to stay, glad I did.

Now that was a shark - a great white, with his remora fish on tow, the mayor and the sheriff. Interesting factoid.... his company was paid $125 MILLION during URI to turn off his electric - while the rest of us had no choice and people were dying! I was aware that one day last year we paid them $33 million to shut down. Now we are paying every month of the mistakes of renewables on the grid and no winterization.

This is disgusting in no uncertain terms. They are gaming the system.

I hate that Texas has become a bank for gas companies. The Texas Energy Fund was set at $5 billion - they got $38.5 billion in applications, I guess capitalism is dead another gaming of the system.

Rant over!!! Thanks for your post - will watch video later, need to keep my blood pressure spikes even across the day!

These hearings are important for people to attend - but it doesn't happen - it's boring. It does give you a better perspective of what is going on and why.

I was disappointed to see nuclear was not represented since we have Abilene Christian University working on a project. They probably were not invited, but that should not be a reason to not show up and speak. They were at the water hearings a few weeks ago.

So…if IEA is correct about the oil glut 😂 it is a great reason not to buy an electric car. Gasoline prices should be at record low, while electricity prices pushed up by renewables will be spectacularly high. See San Diego Gas and Electric rates - $0.66/kwh. My old gas powered clunkers will be paid for and cheap to fuel. Win-win.

I agree with much of what you’ve written Irina if only because because of the human condition, and yes plants thrive on increased CO2, but only up to a certain point, then they shutdown their pores, they’re also react badly to the particulates from the burning of FREE FINITE Flammable Fossils, because of course it’s not just CO2 but CO2e and that’s really toxic. But what the hell if a few million, billion, people die as a result of air pollution associated with a broad spectrum of acute and chronic illness, such as lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and cardiovascular diseases, still at least we can continue with our hedonistic lifestyles particularly those of us in the Global North. But the really really big elephant in the room that you avoid at any cost is Oil, Gas and Coal, in particular the key one of the three Oil. Crude (Conventional) Oil as predicted by M.King Hubbert peaked in USA in 1970’s then technology in the form of offshore and horizontal drilling kept the Crude Oil flowing until around 2005-2007, then technology came to the rescue, perfected horizontal drilling and fracking but this isn’t Crude it’s Tight (Lite) Oil supplementing the Crude, along with refinery gain, fuel ethanol, natural gas liquids, renewables and oxygenates, giving the impression all is well in the Oil world. And of course the supply quantities appear to be beating all expectations, but it’s a lie, for all that’s happening is multiple wells drilled around one point give the effect of a bigger straw, it doesn’t mean there’s any more Oil or Gas there, just like when you have a milkshake, put multiple straws in the glass and you’ll suck it up faster, it doesn’t increase what was originally in the glass. So what can we predict for a FINITE source, well that the slurping sound, the end of Oil’s magic properties will happen a lot sooner, some say as early as 2027. When that happens we’ll be going back to the future, probably a 17th century feudalist one, then on onto the mass extinction of humanity. I’m sorry Irina but it was never going to end well🤔

What hedonistic life styles? I know this view of the west and the USA in particular is in fashion, but it's a stupid fashion.

I don't where you live, but what I see is a bunch of people struggling to get by day to day, not living hedonistic life styles.

Sheesh, fall for the propaganda much? This bit of fashionable stupidity was the first step in convincing people that they should suffer to reduce CO2. You're all sinners for living hedonistically and now you must buy indulgences to make your soul right.

What a load of swindle.

To address you larger point, with nuclear energy everything can continue very well in deed.

Expand full comment

Hedonistic: hedonism in lifestyle refers to actions and habits that focus on fulfilling personal desires and enjoyment, such as excessive consumption of food, drink, and shopping, and spending time and money on activities that only satisfy personal desires. As for the poor we could probably write a book between us in debating why we have the poor, but who greater can we have than Stoic-like philosophical sage Jesus Christ saying “The poor you will always have with you” (Mk 14:7)

Predicting the future: The steep ride up the and down the energy curve is the most abnormal thing that has ever happened in human history. Most of human history is a no-growth situation. Our culture is built on growth and that phase of human history is almost over and we are not prepared for it. Our biggest problem is not the end of our resources. That will be gradual. Our biggest problem is a cultural problem. We don't know how to cope with it.” M. King Hubbert

On Nuclear Power:

Globally only -20% of energy is supplied in the form of electricity, and only ~2% of that is provided by Renewables including Nuclear Power which is a fraction of that, leaving -80% still reliant on FREE FINITE Flammable Fossils.

“No nation on earth has ever been able to launch or maintain a nuclear program without huge and continuing subsidies [tax breaks]. Nuclear power, in other words, never pays for itself; absent a stream of government handouts, it doesn't make enough economic sense to attract enough private investment [where are the institutional investors falling over themselves to get a slice of the action] to cover its costs, much less meet the huge and so far unmet expenses of nuclear waste storage, and in the great majority of cases, the motive behind the program, and the subsidies, is pretty clearly the desire [USA] of local government to arm itself with nuclear weapons at any cost" - "Dark Age America" - John Michael Greer

And if you really want to save humanity and the planet then:

“Democracy cannot survive overpopulation. Human dignity cannot survive it. Convenience and decency cannot survive it. As you put more and more people into the world, the value of life not only declines, but it disappears. It doesn't matter if someone dies. - Isaac Asimov.

And from Albert A. Bartlett (1923-2013) Professor Emeritus in Nuclear Physics at University of Colorado at Boulder.

“The greatest shortcoming of the human race is our inability to understand the exponential function.”

And “The first law of sustainability: population growth and/or growth in the rate of consumption of resources cannot be sustained”

And so:-

“There is ONE THING we can do to save the planet: Keep your pecker in your pants, and do not let your knickers down. Period. End of story. It will have the added benefit of phasing out coal to zero. Ditto for oil, gas, lithium, copper, cobalt, nickel, plastic, chemicals... I think you get my drift. This is not rocket science.” — Sam Mitchell at Collapse Chronicles🤔
